iwantmyname, a New Zealand-based domain registration company, focuses exclusively on domain management and registration. It was established by several ICANN-accredited domain registrars employees. The company prides itself in its simplicity, transparency and ethics.
iwantmyname is committed to making domain purchasing, management, and transfer simple and transparent. When it comes to domain registrars, they are big on company values like transparency and exude a “good guy” vibe.
How does this domain registrar compare to the rest? Here is my experience with iwantmyname so far, along with my complete iwantmyname review including pros and cons.
Before we get too deep into the pros and cons of each, here are some things you should keep in mind.
First, iwantmyname is a domain registrar. You can buy, register and manage domain names. They don’t offer hosting or other complementary services. This will be covered in more detail as we go, but it is important to know the basics of iwantmyname. They are solely focused on making it easy for small businesses, or those with less technical skills, to get online. The first step in getting online is to register a domain name.
A domain does not mean a website. It is not an email address, app or other service. It is simply your online address. It allows people to find you. Setting up a website requires hosting.
Let’s now look at the pros and cons of using Iwantmyname to register your domain.

Pros of IwantmyName
Interface/Backend
iwantmyname promises simplicity. And that’s exactly what you get. As soon as you visit their website, you’ll notice that it is so simple, almost boring — which, for a domain registrar like iwantmyname, is great.
It doesn’t have to be beautiful, or even include all the bells and sounds. We just need functionality and usability. The interface of iwantmyname accomplishes this. It is simple and directs you to the right place.
This design does not include any upsells, cross-sells or visual clutter. iwantmyname is proud to not upsell or cross-sell. This is a refreshing change from the usual flood of direct responses from hosting and domain companies. You will need to follow a three-step checkout process to purchase your domain.
Transparent pricing
iwantmyname offers standard pricing for each domain extension. Although their pricing is more expensive (more on this in the cons), there aren’t any setup fees, ICANN fees or other hidden costs. Your domain will renew automatically at the same rate each year. You won’t get bombarded with upsells and cross-sells when you check out.
In other words, you get what you see.
There are tons of TLDs
The company is a global domain registrar and offers many top-level domains (TLDs) to its customers. iwantmyname has you covered if you are looking for unique domains like.kitchen and.academy.
Their selection of TLDs is great, but what’s even better? The country-specific domains. Some domain registrars do not offer TLDs beyond the US-only generic options. With iwantmyname, there are many options and options available for international branding.
Integrations
Although iwantmyname focuses on domain registration and management only, there are many apps that you can integrate your domain with. These include website builders such as Wix, eCommerce platforms like Shopify, and email providers like Google Workspace.
There are many integration options available, but it is also very easy to integrate. To connect your domain with these services and apps, you don’t require any technical knowledge. It takes only a few clicks to connect your domain to G Suite.
Transfer process
Despite the ICANN process being standard, some domain registrars make it difficult to transfer your domain. With iwantmyname, this is not the case.
Although I have not personally transferred domains with them, the process appears very straightforward. You will need to unlock your domain, take note of the authorization code and then follow the steps provided by your new registrar.
Simplicity
The main pro of iwantmyname is simplicity. Everything is easy to use, from the domain search process to updating nameservers (it only takes one click), and it’s designed for those who don’t have a lot of technical knowledge.
It’s no surprise that iwantmyname is so interested in transparency. They have created a platform that is transparent and easy to use, which reflects their values.
Cons of iwantmyname
Support
The interface and model of iwantmyname are designed to eliminate any customer support. It is easy to use and geared towards people with no technical knowledge in order to obtain a domain. Life happens. You need support when life happens.
Customer support experiences are almost all anecdotal. I enjoy evaluating whether support is a cost or an investment for companies. It is impossible to know whether you have landed an experienced professional or a newbie who is having a bad day. Their options are limited. They offer only email support. They claim that they have covered 23 hours of the 24 hour day Tuesday through Friday, but acknowledge the gaps in their coverage. You may not find the help you need if you are in a tight spot.
Pricing
Although iwantmyname has a transparent pricing structure that is very good (no upsells, no fees and no rate change upon annual renewal), their domains can get expensive, especially for TLDs other than the basic (like.com,.org, etc).
Bundling domains is not eligible for discounts, so you might want to consider other options if you are looking to purchase in bulk.
There are no complementary products
The focus of iwantmyname on domains is a pro and con.
A domain can be purchased with many products. An SSL certificate is required to make your website secure. Although you can purchase it separately from a third-party, I find it easier to manage it with your domain.
Hosting is a difficult topic for me. I prefer to keep my domains separate from my hosting. However, many owners prefer to have their domains and hosting in one place (even though it may not be the best option for resilience).
Namecheap offers hosting at a competitive price; GoDaddy provides WordPress hosting with domains. Many hosting companies offer domain registration or even free domains with hosting purchases (such as Bluehost or InMotion).
These products are not available through iwantmyname. Although they make suggestions, if you want the convenience of all your information in one place, and not having to do it yourself, then you are out of luck.
