Wix vs Bluehost – Website Builders Review

Bluehost and Wix, the most widely used website building platform in the industry, are both available. Before we compare Bluehost vs Wix’s features, let’s find out more about each company.

Wix

Wix is an Israeli software company. Its headquarters are in Tel Aviv. The stock symbol Wix is publicly traded on the Nasdaq.

Wix is best known for its fully-hosted website platform. Wix is most well-known for its fully-hosted web platform.

Wix allows you to manage all aspects of your website from design to functionality. Hosting is where your website files are located.

Self-hosting Wix cannot be done on your server. This would be counterproductive to their main selling proposition – maximum convenience.

Bluehost

is a U.S.-based web hosting provider. It is a subsidiary of Newfold Digital, which is an IT service company (formerly Endurance International Group).

Bluehost, a web hosting provider, provides space on a server that allows you to build a website. Bluehost also provides a range of products and services.

Bluehost can be more complex than Wix, but it offers more control.

Wix is like buying a condo.

Bluehost is similar to purchasing a house.

Website Builder vs. Web Hosting Company

Bluehost and Wix are easily compared. Let me list the most essential features website owners require and let you know how they perform.

It’s important to balance convenience and control.

Wix is a platform that prioritizes convenience and controls the environment. If you don’t need it, you can’t transfer to another platform.

Bluehost lets you make any changes that you want, such as moving your website to another hosting provider. You will have to do the legwork, which can prove frustrating.

This isn’t the only difference between Wix & Bluehost.

As I’ve mentioned in previous reviews of website builders, both our website setup guide as well as our reviews of eCommerce platforms – there is no one right way. This is what I’ll be talking about.

Bluehost vs. Wix Pricing

Wix offers five paid plans. The only difference is how much storage space each plan has and how many video hours it can store.

Wix offers hosting and customer service. It includes themes (website design), website hosting, etc.

Bluehost provides a range of website software that can also be installed on their plans. Prices depend on how many resources you have. Self-hosted WordPress is free and can be installed anywhere (including Bluehost).

WordPress hosted on your server is cheaper than other hosting options. Unlimited design options and bandwidth are also available.

Bluehost lets you have multiple website designs on one account. Wix is also available. Each site has a separate monthly cost.

No comparison in pricing. Bluehost+ WordPress offers Wix premium apps like Analytics and Site Booster free of charge via the Google Analytics WordPress plugin and the Yoast search plugin.

These plugins explain why pricing comparisons between Bluehost & Wix can feel like comparing apples and oranges. Bluehost’s big pricing point asterisk means that although you don’t have to pay for everything, you do need to pay for the essentials.

Wix is a very popular option because it’s easy to use.

But, it is worth looking into hosting plans and building your website with WordPress (which Bluehost will automatically set up).

Bluehost is the winner

User Experience

Onboarding is the process of transferring a customer from signup to active usage.

This is helping customers understand your software.

Wix’s onboarding process is excellent, as we already discussed in our Wix Review. The intuitive interface allows you to drag and drop items.

Wix has a wide range of pre-loaded designs that can be used to complement different websites (e.g. portfolio, business lead-gen, and portfolio). Wix offers a variety of pre-loaded designs to suit different types of websites (e.g. music, portfolio, lead-gen, and portfolio ).

Bluehost has the best onboarding experience, especially for WordPress users and beginners. It is easy to create an account with Bluehost.

Bluehost isn’t as easy to use. Bluehost is not as easy to use.

Bluehost support is available for specific questions. Once WordPress is installed, however, there’s no way to “do that, then”.

Wix wins

Design Options

Website building has one thing in common, e.g. One thing that is common in website building, e.g. WordPress, Wix, or Shopify is the unique design of each platform.

It doesn’t matter if the software uses templates or themes as a base, it doesn’t mean that you can’t create your own.

HTML/CSS can be used to design a website’s appearance.

Bluehost lets you edit any file. HTML/CSS is also possible as you have direct access to the files on the server.

Wix does not allow HTML/CSS editing in their editor. This allows you to create truly unique designs.

Bluehost offers more design options than any other platform. Let’s look at three questions platform designers often ask:

  1. Can you use their plug-and-play designs easily?
  2. What premium designs are available in “plug and Play”?
  3. What’s the maximum length that a professional designer/developer is allowed to go for support of a design?

Both have excellent, plug-and-play designs. Wix has a variety of designs that can be customized to suit your website type (reality or music, portfolio, etc.). Some designs may seem dated, but others are still very popular.

Bluehost offers thousands upon thousands of free WordPress themes. You just need to choose one from the Appearance menu.

Question #2: Bluehost and WordPress both offer many design options. Professional developers have been creating premium themes for years.

Wix doesn’t have a marketplace for third-party themes. Wix has premium themes in their app marketplace.

Question #3: Both allow designers to do what they like with self-hosted WordPress. It offers the most freedom.

Wix is not designed/developed-friendly (see HTML/CSS). Although many professionals can work with Wix templates, they may not be HTML/CSS ninjas. They are more adept at Wix than HTML/CSS, but they have to be able to design Wix. Wix is a marketplace that allows professionals to sell their services.

Bluehost is the winner

Technical and Customization Options

Wix offers fewer customization options, such as no FTP access or scripts, but they are the most user-friendly and feature-rich.

Bluehost provides unlimited technical and customization options. There are thousands upon thousands of plugins that you can use to customize your WordPress installation.

Self-hosted WordPress can be used to improve SEO functionality, build an eCommerce site, add appointments, or create a social network.

A Bluehost code conflict can cause your website to crash.

It’s almost like owning a home. You can add shutters to your home or build a deck. However, you are responsible for any damage.

Bluehost allows you to customize yours.

Bluehost is the winner

SEO & Marketing

WordPress websites are excellent for SEO and marketing. They produce searchable HTML & CSS.

Wix generates pages with Javascript. We have demonstrated this in our Wix review.

Bluehost allows you to have complete control. Bluehost allows advanced techniques like tracking data, tags, and advanced SEO changes. It also lets you opt-in to email lists and schema.

The bottom line: A Bluehost self-hosted WordPress website is the best option if you need a comprehensive marketing toolkit.

Bluehost is the winner

Support & Service for Customers

DIY is just the first step. Customer support is essential at some point.

Wix offers customer support via support tickets. Wix offers chat, phone, and knowledge base support.

I have reviewed many hosting companies, and the services/approaches varied greatly. Bluehost provides solid support for beginners through many channels.

Wix’s customer support team has fewer options because they use a hosted platform. There are fewer problems to worry about.

If you have a customized WordPress website that is self-hosted, a troubleshooting process is required.

If you are comfortable with problem-solving, a Bluehost website with WordPress will be the best option.

Wix can integrate its service with its products, making it a better setup.

Bluehost, Wix (Tie), winners

Backups, Security, and Maintenance

Website speed, security, and maintenance are closely tied to customer support.

These problems are not for Wix users. All three are included in the bundle deal.

Bluehost users need to update their WordPress plugins and installations regularly.

Although these topics don’t require any technical knowledge or developers, they are very important. Bluehost gives you more control over your site’s speed and security.

Bluehost, Wix (Tie), winners

Summary: Bluehost vs. Wix

Bluehost is the overall winner

Bluehost and Wix are both well-known brands.

In a head-to-head comparison with Wix, Bluehost wins. Bluehost wins in a head-to-head comparison over Wix.

Wix might not be the right choice for everyone. Wix may not be the right choice for all customers.

Bluehost + WordPress is the best choice if you want maximum control and ease of use, but are willing to learn.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
